  • Trauma deeply impacts every aspect of life, including the body. At The Life In You Counseling, you will gain insight into how trauma affects the body and brain, work through past and current traumatic events, develop effective ways to respond to triggers, and find inner healing to reclaim a sense safety and peace.

  • Many individuals have described depression as darkness or emptiness. The weight of sadness and despair can become overwhelming, making it challenging to find joy in things that once brought happiness. The Life In You Counseling is here to help illuminate the light within you so you can discover your own path forward and reconnect with joy.

  • Anxiety can feel crushing, even suffocating, but it is possible to achieve a sense of equilibrium. The Life In You Counseling is here to help you catch your breath. Learn to identify what is within your power and how to handle circumstances beyond your control.

  • Grief has a natural process. However, the process can be delayed or prolonged if we do not allow ourselves to feel the pain from the loss. The Life in You Counseling will give you the support and tools to handle whatever emotions may arise.

  • From overt racism to institutional discrimination to subtle microaggressions, we face oppression daily. Having one’s worth constantly being questioned or invalidated can take a toll. The Life In You Counseling will provide you with a safe and affirming space to process these experiences and remind you of your value and importance.

  • Those living with HIV understand U=U (undectable=untransmissble) and it is possible to live a long and fulfilling life. However, outdated misconceptions not only impact individuals but their interactions with family and friends. The Life In You Counseling is here to help you overcome shame and alienation and lead you to a life of self-acceptance, self-compassion, and connection.

  • It is difficult to find a sense of belongingness in a cis-hetronormative world. Faced with the possibility of rejection from family, friends, politics, and even religion, alienation and diminished self-value can occur. The Life In You Counseling will guide from an acceptance and affirming lens to help you see the value within yourself and find the community where you belong.

  • Life can be unexpected and put us in positions where we are not able to function how we normally would. During this life transition, The Life in You Counseling will remind you of your strengths, help you build coping skills, and get you back to your optimal functioning.

My treatment modalities include:

  • EMDR is a therapy designed to help people heal from distressing memories related to trauma. During a session, you’ll recall a traumatic event while engaging in a form of rhythmic movement or tapping that alternates between left and right. This process helps your brain process and integrate these memories in a healthier way. Research has shown that EMDR can be very effective for many people.

  • ACT is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that emphasizes mindfulness and personal values in the treatment of various mental health conditions. ACT aims to help individuals accept their thoughts and feelings, commit to actions that align with their values, and be present in the moment. Rather than trying to eliminate or control unpleasant emotions, ACT teaches individuals to observe and accept them as a natural part of the human experience. By developing psychological flexibility, clients learn to move toward their values and goals, even in the presence of difficult thoughts and feelings.

  • DBT is a cognitive-behavioral treatment that emphasizes the development of four core skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT helps clients manage emotional instability, improve relationships, and reduce self-destructive behaviors.

  • CBT is a widely practiced form of psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. It is based on the concept that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and that changing negative thought patterns can lead to changes in feelings and behaviors. Through techniques such as cognitive restructuring, exposure therapy, and problem-solving, CBT aims to provide individuals with tools to build healthier thinking habits and coping strategies. It has a strong evidence base and is considered a gold standard treatment for many psychological conditions.

  • The Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy that includes a thorough assessment of the relationship and integrates research-based interventions. It emphasizes the importance of friendship, trust, and commitment. The therapy often begins with an assessment phase, including interviews and questionnaires to understand the couple's relationship dynamics. It then focuses on enhancing the couple's friendship, improving their communication, and helping them create shared meaning.

  • Mindfulness-Based Therapy refers to a range of therapeutic approaches that integrate mindfulness practices into psychological treatment. Mindfulness involves paying attention to the present moment non-judgmentally and with awareness. It often includes practices such as meditation, deep breathing, and body scanning.
